As is common in most parts of the ME, summer rainfall is rare and Qazvin has a number of ancient cisterns for collecting water. As with other cisterns in the city, this one doesn't look like much from the outside, just a plain brick dome of no particular note. Inside it is something else. Built around 500 years ago, the cistern is over 40 metres from floor to the top of the dome. The brick work is superb. Now empty of water a long flight of steps leads to the floor of the cistern.
